There's a Comment Meta Fest going on over at [community profile] fem_thoughts . Come on over and play! You can watch me be a cranky misandrist about "The Fall." Also lots of female-centric and femslash-friendly discussion if that doesn't appeal. ;)

In the comments of this week's Dear Prudence, there is a hilarious fake letter from Edmure Tully seeking Prudie's advice post-Red Wedding. Totally made my day. Also Edmure would totally write to Prudie. There's also a really funny one from Jorah,
Dear Prudie,
While I was otherwise occupied with my bedding ceremony, my new father-in-law had my sister, nephew and his wife killed, along with their bannermen and army. Now I am a prisoner in his dungeon. I can't help but think this is a terrible breach of etiquette. However, my new wife did turn out to be kind of hot, so there's that. How should I address this breaking of guest rights with my FIL? He is is rather prickly and as you can see, does not take being slighted very well.
Signed,
Edmure Tully, Lord of Riverrun (I think I'm still lord? Unclear on that.)

List your 15 favorite characters from 15 different fandoms. Then ask your flist to look for patterns

1. Carmen Sandiego (Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?)

2. Melisande Shahrizai (Kushiel's Legacy- always a tough call between Phedre and Melisande. I'd run away with both of them)

3. Laura Roslin (BSG)

4. Ben Linus (Lost)

5. Omar Little (The Wire)

6. Arya Stark (asoiaf/got)

7. Gus Fring (Breaking Bad)

8. Dr. Melfi (The Sopranos)

9. Lady Mary (Downton Abbey)

10. Joan Holloway Harris (Mad Men- i'm probably more like Peggy, but i loooove Joan)

11. Liz Lemon (30 rock)

12. Edina Monsoon (Ab Fab)

13. Dr. Eleanor O’Hara (Nurse Jackie)

14. Donna Noble (Doctor Who)

15. Attolia Irene (Queen’s Thief)

Clearly, I have a thing for the Head Bitch in Charge. Also Machiavellian criminal masterminds, loud British women, and highly competent secretaries....

Oh, Edmure, you poor floppy fish.

I'm bad at spotting patterns, but your list of characters makes me think of competence in all its forms, some sort of overarching feminist theme that I'm not clever enough to articulate, and characters who are slightly scary.

I'm not familiar with most of these, but of the ones I know, it seems like a pattern of characters whose actions have a logical self consistency with their personality and personal codes, but not so much with the expectations of their surroundings.
