yes, exactly that was part of it for me, too. i appreciated that Kima finally got to be the moral center again in the final season when Lester and McNulty were going off the rails, and that she stepped up and took responsibility for her son. i get what Simon was trying to say about how the job of being a detective can eat a person up, but it just didn't feel right for her character.
