New OTP and Challenge Pimping
Feb. 3rd, 2013 02:57 pmLet me present to you my new OTP of the moment. In the past few days i have gotten absolutely hooked on Irene/Molly Sherlock fic. Granted, I read an Irene/Molly story a few months back and really liked it, but now that I have taken the opportunity to seek out more I loooooove it. And though there is no hint to suggest this pairing in canon as the two ladies in question never actually meet, it just makes so much sense. Well, so much sense to me anyway that sweet, odd, good girl Molly and cold, calculating, bad girl Irene would be perf together. Because Molly is so much stronger than even she knows....and she craves a regard that Sherlock could never give her, but perhaps Irene can. Gah. I love them. The Dominatrix and the Cat Lady. (I should write a fic called that...)
For the hot femslash D/s porn, I enjoyed Pet and Display. But I also really loved First Meeting and Morbid Curiosity which aren't porn, but had wonderful detailed explanations of both Molly and Irene's characters and what might draw them together. Incidentally, I don't understand the AO3 phenomenon of leaving anon kudos for porn. I'm not ashamed to say I like me some well written porn. I would leave kudos or comment on a porn fic the same i would comment on another fic. The thought of logging off to leave anon kudos is just weird to me.
I also signed up for rarewomen again this year. Despite it being right around Must Finish Dissertation time, I figure I can find time to write at least one challenge fic. You can read my noms here. I am still trying to narrow down my requests. So many wonderful ladies to choose from.
V and i watched the first three eps of House of Cards on Netflix over the weekend.
So far, I agree with the reviews that say it's just average. Kevin Spacey has never really done it for me and I think someone like an Ian McShane, who is more of a character actor, would be better in the role of the ruthless political fixer he plays.Though it is beautifully shot in a way that makes it "look expensive" as Nina Garcia would say, the dialogue is often a bit too hammy and on the nose. David Milch and David Simon these writers ain't. So far the bright spots seem to be the main pols relationship with an ambitious young female journalist- he is feeding her stories to ruin his opponents. it's kind of like a dark Jack Donaghy/Liz Lemon mentor-student thing going on. I also like Spacey's character's relationship with his wife, who is an equally ruthless, icy blonde. It's very Lord and Lady MacBeth or Merteuil and Valmont living happily ever after. I like revenge stories and binge tv viewing, so I will probably keep watching. I have never seen the original British drama so I have no basis of comparison. But mostly seeing this Evil!West Wing has just made me want to watch Homeland and Borgen. I finally gave in and ordered the first season of Homeland used on Amazon today.
